2009 Raffle Quilt

2009 Raffle Quilt

2009 Raffle Quilt

This year’s one of a kind, queen size raffle quilt is a Great Grandmas themed Sampler. We are paying tribute to all Grandmothers, especially those who encouraged and taught us how to quilt and sew. Squares within the quilt are entries from the 2008 Quilt Square Contest. Last year’s special quilt square category was ‘Ode to Grandma’ for quilt squares that are one of the following: your Grandma’s favourite pattern, a square with Grandma in the name or a sewing technique that reminds you of your Grandma.

The Binder Twine Festival Raffle Quilt is traditionally a Sampler quilt as each square within the quilt is unique. The squares are made by a small group of avid sewers participating in the annual Quilt Square Contest. The result is no two squares are exactly the same and there is an excellent ‘sampling’ of quilt square designs and patterns as well as sewing techniques. Many of the participants are current or former Kleinburg and area residents.

When the quilt top is sewn together it is placed onto a batting and fabric backing. The three layers are quilted (stitched) together by hand by the Nobleton United Church Quilters.

Tickets for this year’s raffle quilt are available at participating Kleinburg Merchants from May to the beginning of September. On Festival Day, Saturday September 12th, 2009 tickets can be purchased at the Quilt Booth. Tickets are $2.00 each or 3 for $5.00. Money raised from the raffle is used for community projects.

The quilt is currently on display at the Jeremy Workshop.
